Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst position in the Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) will assist with oversight and provides support for the administrative and financial operations in the Human Genome Sequencing Center, a world-class Research Center with an annual budget of >$40M per year. The primary focus of this position is to conduct and document moderate to complex financial analysis projects.

Job Duties

Engages in in-depth financial analysis and reporting; produces complex financial projections and specialized financial reports; participates in cost-accounting activities, including price and budget development for the HGSC's Specialized Service Facility (SSF), which generates sequencing data for Center's research programs.

  • Develops pricing and monitors surplus/deficit for our Specialized Services Facilities (SSF).
  • Prepares and monitors SSF budgets for research projects and grant applications.
  • Analyzes actual SSF costs and prepares periodic reports comparing SSF prices to actual production costs.
  • Participates in Sample Intake Procedures for the Center - estimating project costs and reconciling with available funds.
  • Participates in month-end General Ledger close process for the SSF (~$2M per month).
  • Participates in annual budget preparation for the Center.
  • Utilizes data skills (database development, programming, data analytics, etc.) to improve processes, automate complex tasks, and increase efficiency of current procedures.
  • Compiles, reviews and reconciles financial accounts.
  • Reviews and approves financial entries and transactions, such as journal entries or purchase orders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have a strong background in cost-accounting, understanding of accounting principles, and excellent analytical skills.
  • Exceptional Excel skills are required, as well proficiency in Outlook and Word.
  • Database development and/or programming skills to enable process improvement requirements.
