About the Project

The BCM-HGSC sequenced the genome of the dwarf honey bee (Apis florea). This primitively social bee has simple hives and a simplified waggle dance. This sequencing along with the bumble bee is part of the Honey bee genome refinement project and funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute.

A preliminary draft whole genome shotgun assembly is available. The assembly used the data from 20 fold genome sequence coverage in 454 fragment technology and 2.8 fold sequence coverage in 8kb 454 paired end libraries.
