Research Interests

My training and background are in molecular microbiology with a focus on next generation sequencing (NGS) and variant identification in bacterial pathogens. As a graduate student, I studied mechanisms of nitric oxide detoxification in uropathogenic E. coli. As a Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice University, I used the method of experimental evolution to identify mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in bacterial pathogens. As a Research Scientist at a startup company based in Houston, I worked on genetic engineering of non-model microbes. Since joining the HGSC in July 2023, I have been involved in the development of novel methods and the implementation of production pipelines for long-read sequencing applications.
